I expected it to be a little more solid construction, I guess, but it is better than your run-of-the-mill umbrella that you'd buy an most stores. I'm not sure how it works, but the wind resistance is really quite good. It's much less susceptible to winds than conventional umbrellas. The "automatic" open/close works surprisingly well, too, but be aware that you do have to "assist" it to fully open and closed positions. The protective carrying sleeve fits quite well.

Worst purchase I have made in years. Returned one of two and had to file complaint with my CC company to get refund. Would not return calls, could not get Nubrella to work and was totally disappointed. Have receipt they received product back but from that date have not got them to return a call, email or text. Real bad experience.
The directions included were not of any help, it showed you how to open and close the Nubrella but not how to adjust it. We never could get it adjusted and only thing they would say was to tighten strap 4" which did no good. No directions on putting the Nubrella back into the bag and that was a major chore. I tore my bag the first time I tried to put it back. Only goes one way I guess and I don't know if we ever really found that way.
Bought two and tried to be fair by only returning one because of the torn bag and I tried to get one to work. Have never used it and probably will never be able to. Wanted one for a wheelchair person but that was totally out of reality.
Oh Hum real bad experience.

A Tale of Two Tests in NYC, April 26, 2010

I've used this twice in the rain, and here's my review so far.

Ease of Use:

The Nubrella website (at the time of this review) doesn't clearly demonstrate HOW to wear it. In a TV interview, the inventor explains that the straps from the back go under your arms to lock the Nubrella into place.

It takes some getting used to. It didn't rain for almost a month after I received mine, so I wore it inside a lot to get a feel for the fit -- and to shoot and share pics. I immediately noticed two issues:

The fit - It rested on my head until I contacted Nubrella, and was informed about the strap placement (read above).

It collapsed - As soon as I began to walk, the handle in the front banged against my body, causing the Nubrella to collapse. I felt that there should be a locking mechanism.

But after adjusting the straps, then properly placing my arms in with the secondary straps (from the rear) underneath my arm pits, and the upper straps (with fabric/padding) on top of my shoulders, it finally fit properly.

So after a long wait, it finally rained!

Test One: Night/Light Rain/Times Square (NYC) heading West
I could not SEE well. Visibility at night lacked due to the raindrops sticking to the plastic. I got bumped into by one person, but that would have happened with my full-sized umbrella anyway, which is much less streamlined. I also had a backpack on which always gets soaked in the rain, but this time it remained dry!

Test One Conclusion -
Pros: My backpack stayed dry
Cons: I couldn't see well at night

Test Two: Afternoon/Heavier Rain
This time I took my time and made sure that I was wearing the Nubrella properly. I walked around with it indoors, and it did NOT collapse. Good. Now the real test.

I went to the grocery store. You have to take time to put it on right. Once on, it's great. This time I could see clearly, as it was daytime. At a pedestrian light, I stopped and used my iPhone, which stayed completely dry under the Nubrella. Headphone use is also better/safer.

There were a few circumstances where in order to avoid puddles, I needed to fit between some tight spots. With a normal umbrella, I'd tilt or collapse it. The Nubrella has to be removed, as it IS something you WEAR. So that was inconvenient, but not a deal breaker.

The Nubrella allowed me to carry groceries with both hands. When I arrived at a corner that's always windy, I only noticed the wind because I saw someone else's umbrella blowing around. That's the corner where with my normal umbrella, I collapse it and get soaked or fight with it, despite it being one of those 'wind resistant' umbrellas.

As a New Yorker, I was a little put off by the fact that I had to walk SLOWER than normal with the Nubrella. It could be due to an improper fit (by my error, not Nubrella's), but if I walked at my normal fast speed that day, the Nubrella would bounce around a lot. When I walked slow (or what is probably a normal pace in other parts of the world), it was fine.

One of the straps kept falling down like a bra strap. I had to constantly re-adjust it. Any one-size-fits-all contraptions will not fit everyone perfectly. However, Nubrella is very quick to respond and sent new straps to me. I have yet to test it with those new straps, as once again, it just hasn't rained much in NYC.

The humiliation factor is what some worry about. Well, I can't lie and say I didn't notice people staring, but since I'm an adult -- who cares?! One guy loved it. A kid looked in awe. What matters to me is that I am kept drier than I would be with a normal umbrella, and I am. The Nubrella is also more streamlined, so it wasn't in the way. In the midst of a very crowded NYC street, I think any umbrella's in the way, so at that point I may wear a hooded jacket or get bumped around as I did in test one. But I'd rather get bumped than accidentally poke someone with a normal umbrella.

The final part is that the Nubrella opens wide so that it can drip dry easily in an open space.

Visibility from the rear was an issue simply because I chose the black one. If you buy this for biking or any related transportation purpose, you may opt for the clear one.

Test Two Conclusion -
Pros: Once it fits, it works. It kept me drier and warmer than a regular umbrella would have. I could use my iPhone under it. The company (inventor) is VERY responsive.
Cons: You can't quickly collapse it when you come upon something that it won't fit past. I suggest the clear one, as the ones with fabric in the rear obstruct your view.

Further testing in different weather conditions will determine my future updates to this review, but so far, so good. I actually look forward to stormy... Read more

This is an awesome umbrella. The only problem I had was that the handle was too short for me. I am 5'9" and would have to keep my arms up higher than I would with other umbrellas.
Don't get me wrong, I still use since I have not seen better ones yet. All the Samsonite that I bought were the BEST. Super-strong.

I bought this for my GF, and she loves it. She takes BART into work everyday so the nice small compact size works out well. It is automatic opening, but you have to push the last little bit to lock it in. It's no hassle, but just wanted to clarify it's automatic abilities. In mild to moderate wind gusts, it hasn't inverted and doesn't seem like it wants to. Chances are, my GF would fly away before it inverted. Simple presents makes the ladies happy.

I gave this item two stars. The quality of the items they did ship to me were fantastic ( although i have heard that you can see any lights behind the thin green screen ), BUT there were missing parts in my package! In the description it clearly states that within the light kit come two "AC light umbrella holders" but when i opened my package they were nowhere to be seen. This is really annoying because without the light and umbrella holders i cannot use the light kit at all, there are no sockets. I am quite disappointed so i just sent the company that makes the green screen an email that will hopefully get them to send me 2 more light/umbrella holders.

Although I haven't used it yet in a driving rainstorm, the RST umbrella looks very solid and strong for a compact, and therefore is something special and different. I will post more after testing it in a strong storm. The build quality of the metal ribs and springs looks impressive. I like the tradeoff of small portable size since I dont want to lug around a big umbrella and be heading straight for Nerdsville. More later.

Altman's follow-up to NASHVIILE (after having done THREE WOMEN in between) promised to do for the American family and the class system what NASHVILLE itself did for pop culture and democracy. The film doesn't live up to the standard of the earlier film by a long shot, and is much too wild and woolly to suit its topic. Yet it does have some great moments of redemption.

The film explores an afternoon at the home of one of the great wealthy old families in Chicago--the Sloans--as Dino Corelli (Desi Arnaz, Jr.), the grandson of the family's elderly matriarch Netty (Lillian Gish), marries "Muffin" Brenner (Amy Stryker), the brace-faced daughter of a newly wealthy Kentucky trucking company owner. The scenes near the beginning of the wedding guests frantically trying to find bathrooms in the Sloan mansion after the ceremony are as good as anything Altman's ever done. But the film loses a great deal of focus after that: it seems to be missing a center (not enough is done with either the groom or the bride--despite Stryker's promising performance--to make you care enough about either of them). And some of the bits, such as those involving the crazy security team hired to protect the wedding gifts, belong in another film altogether. The film's great redemption is Carol Burnett's performance as Muffin's mother Tulip, a deeply conventional (yet very likable) middle American woman whose life is turned upside down when the groom's wealthy uncle tells her he's fallen in love with her at first sight. At first shocked and (literally) nauseated, Tulip becomes slowly intrigued as she begins to see a possibility for her life she never imagined before. The emotional arc her character takes in the film is amazing: although Burnett's performance has some similarities to her work on her comedy show, it is much more subtle and fleshed out. Her Tulip Brenner, like the best characters in NASHVILLE, is someone you wonder about long after the movie is over: she seems like a real and fully developed person.

"these are off the shelf $2.00 cfls the seller claims 5500 kelvin. These are more like 3500 kelvin. not as pictured or described light spectrum may not matter in a porch light but this seller claims to be selling a photo flood with a daylight spectrum and is not delivering this. the manufacturers website says nothing about spectrum. Ummm maybe you ran out of the good ones and called me a sucker."
This seller is a complete ripoff. Sent me something I didn't buy. I can buy the bulbs he sent me at WalMart or HomeDepot. I'm not returning them because it wouldn't make sense to spend any more money on this transaction. (customer pays shipping, ect,ect)
This seller should be banned from Amazon.

There's a reason I don't read Jodi Picoult. It involves the size of my eyelids the morning after I read one of her books. HUGELY PUFFY! Something happened when I had child number two-I can't cry over a sad movie, show, or book right before bed without waking the next morning looking like my eyelids have been stung by bees. It's not pretty.
This morning-puffy, swollen, bee-stung eyelids. Umbrella Summer by Lisa Graff caused me to do some serious de-puffing this morning, but I loved this book! Sad books don't always make great read-alouds, but I do believe that the conversations you could have make this a good consideration for a read-aloud. I don't want to say anything else about the sadness, but boy is this a great book! The power of community to help a person heal-what a great message!
The main character Annie, is a girl I can relate to-she worries about everything! Bike safety, dangerous diseases, and more. She worries so much she has given up many of her favorite things to do, like racing on her bike with her best friend. Too dangerous. Now even though I can relate to Annie and her worries, the reason behind our compulsive worrying is not similar. We won't go into my issues, but Annie feels she needs to do enough worrying to keep herself and her family safe. Through her friendship with an elderly, new, next-door neighbor, the reading of Charlotte's Web (love books that reference other books!), and a few mishaps along the way, Annie learns that worrying isn't as necessary or all-consuming as she was letting be.
I'm so happy I loved this book, which sounds like a silly thing to say, but it bothered me that I did not like Bernetta Wallflower when so many other people have liked it. In my opinion it will become a kid's classic in the same vein as The Bridge to Terabithia.

Great concept, poorly made, July 2, 2009

I purchased this umbrella for my patio in Seattle. The feet aren't wide enough to support the product. So we strapped it down by placing weights on the feet. This helped it to stand up without tipping forward, until a very small summer breeze blew through. The cloth acted as a sail and began twisting the umbrella back and forth, side to side. The corners would dip down to about 3 feet, then fly back upwards. The plastic cap that holds the arm in the upright position only stays on for about 10 minutes. Then it pops off causing the umbrella part to fall downward a few feet. The two knobs that are supposed to keep the arm from twisting around the base do not hold, and eventually loosen after a few minutes.
You could probably screw it down to a wood deck (hardware not included) and then stake down each corner. But that defeats the purpose of it being adjustable.
I know it sounds like it went thru a hurricane, but that was just a lazy afternoon in the breeze. After a week of flapping, twisting and dipping, we have given up on it.
I'm not paying money to ship it back but if you're still interested in the product check craigslist. That's where mine will be.

I ordered this wagon because I saw someone else using a similar one in the park. It is from the other company. But after I did some search I decided to buy this one. It is a very convenient wagon and very well made, and surprisingly very sturdy. It folds up very flat and easy to fit into my van. I used to have a double jogger and it was getting too heavy for me to push with my twins of over 70 lbs. It is very very easy to turn and very spacious. The canopy is big and easy to put on or off, very clever design. I lived in San Diego and I take kids out everyday. People constantly ask me where I got it. Absolutely love it.

We've been using the Pliko P3 for 9 months. We did not shop around much as we had been told the P3 was the way to go - so unlike some other reviewers here I cannot claim to have tried a wide variety of other strollers. From our experience I can say - on the plus side - it looks great, offers our daughter a comfortable ride, has a good quality and versatile harness system and folds up easily (although I would argue against other reviewers here who praise it for its' light weight and compactness). It also works seamlessly with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat, Paloma which for me is a major plus as I think that's a fantastic car seat. The backrest folds almost flat and the materials are easy to clean. These are all good points.

My primary problem with the P3 (and the other Peg strollers) is the build quality. I can't help feeling it's built primarily for looking good on well paved city streets. The minute it spends any time on anything approaching a rough or gravel road or even a poorly paved city street (of which there are many where we live) it battles. Ours has developed a number of rattles and idiosyncrasies that are clearly the result of this "rough" use that, in my opinion, is far from rough. To be fair it's still working. Just perhaps a little less stylish now that the wheels squeak and our daughter seems forced to sit at a slightly odd angle!

For our next stroller (yes, I'm expecting to have to buy another one) I am likely to try something like this: Jeep Liberty Limited All Terrain 3 Wheel Stroller - Galaxy. The Liberty is a similar price, looks a little more rugged, can be used with the Peg car seat and, as an added bonus, looks like it allows easy one handed pushing.

The Peg P3 is not a bad product. But keep it for looking good around your (well maintained) city streets.

My wife and I were happy with the look and ease-of-use of this umbrella. Since it was a Christmas present and we live in Ohio we waited until April to setup the umbrella on our existing patio table using a new heavy cast iron base that we also purchased. All was good and we were looking forward to a summer under it's shade, but weather was very rainy, so after the 1st day we closed the umbrella and were waiting for better spring weather to arrive. Within a month, the pole snapped off during a storm right at the point where the pole extends through the center hole of the table. I could understand it snapping if the canopy was open, or if the wind was excessive, but this was a run-of-the-mill spring storm and the canopy was closed. Apparently this pole is too cheap to withstand the weight of the canopy and a gust of wind. The pole is made of cheap light wood with no reinforcement whatsoever. Honestly, it's intended for outdoor use, so you'd think the pole would withstand the outdoor elements a little better. I'm very dissatisfied with this purchase. Might as well have flushed $60 down the toilet.

I bought this to cart around my two kids (1 and 4) after lots of research. Man, this was a good decision! A million times better than those silly plastic tubs. The quality is fantastic and it couldn't be easier to use. And it fits in the trunk! Every time we use it, I'm asked where I got it. I've considered putting a sign on the back! The bottom is comfortable, but not particularly padded, so I throw a lambskin on the bottom. I've also used it to haul 6 bags of mulch and it's my new way of getting groceries from the car to the house. Again, very functional.

One note- the wheels are rubber and they were super-stinky for a couple of weeks. If you can, off-gas somewhere that's not enclosed (like a car).

Another note, Amazon's price was over $50 cheaper than anywhere else. And believe me, I've looked.

I was excited when I purchased the item online, but that excitement quickly changed when it arrived. The shipping was fast enough, but the product was obviously used. All the packaging was old and the base and frame had scratches all over. Additionally, several plastic pieces showed previous use. To make matters worse, no documentation came with the product. There was no warranty, no assembly instructions, no operation information, and no safety guidelines, which is typical of any product of this kind. I contacted the seller, BestChoiceproducts, and was told that the product does not have any documentation of any kind, which I find hard to believe. Their customer service told me that they would provide a "FULL" refund, EXCEPT that I had to pay to ship the item back to them. However, since they are so benevolent, I was told that they would refund me $15 if I chose to keep the item in its current condition. I contacted AMAZON about BestChoiceproducts's refund policy, which did not mention that buyers had to pay for return shipping. Amazon indicates that I am due a full refund and that I do not need to pay for return shipping. Waiting to see how this ends, but BUYERS BEWARE of BestChoiceproducts.

This is my 3rd child after having a 9 and 7 year old. And even after all these years, I've come back to this stroller. I had a very similar stroller back then (Peg doesn't carry anymore since it's over 9 years ago) but has similar functionality. What I enjoy most is it's ease of use, portability and styling. Although this is slightly bulkier than my old Peg Perego it's light and small enough that I don't foresee buying even an umbrella stroller. I also purchased a matching parasol and it is such an adorable stroller that rivals the more pricier and impractically designed strollers out there.

Umbrella works well. After <1 month the center light filled with water and failed. The small top connects to the framework with screws and washers. After some wind over the last week I opened the umbrella and the fabric had pulled off one of the connection points. On further examination I found that this particular connection is missing the washer and it allowed the fabric to tear away from the framework. Am going to try to contact company or Amazon about problems.

Wow, I loved this stroller. I have searched and looked at every stroller possible. I went to shops to see them personally - Initially I wonted one of those with 3 wheels they are so cool and really delightful to push around, but they are huge - really HUGE! In my small apartment and not so big car, that thing wouldn't fit. So I found the Peg Perego under the advice of a friend who's just had her third baby and is still using the same Peg Perego stroller!!! My daughter now is almost 9 months and the stroller is great, I just had to put some oil in the wheels once, I probably should wash the lining, but I've been getting by with just cleaning it with a damp cloth. It's great, folds great, goes in the trunk easily, and is not so heavy as almost all the others I have seen. I have it in red but it's a different shade from this, it's beautiful!

As a design professional, I have to admit to occasionally bowing to the aesthetic qualities of a product and paying more for it as a result. Phil & Ted's products commonly possess this strong visual attractiveness, but it is normally married with strong industrial design principles that make for an innovative and user-friendly experience. With the "smart" stroller however, something went wrong.

Most of the issues my wife and I have with the smart relate to the position of the swing pivot, which is too high. This causes two problems:
Firstly, it is difficult to maneuver off curbs; a high pivot position makes it very difficult to swing the stroller back (the natural motion for negotiating curbs and steps.)
Secondly, it is difficult to fold; most strollers utilize a lower pivot position so that when you release the locking mechanism gravity does the rest and the chair "wants" to fold. With the smart you have to tip the chair right back in order for this to happen.
The unlocking mechanism is fiddly an involves releasing two bicycle-type quick release levers and then releasing a sprung loaded locator from its hole. Again, unlike most strollers, this buggy has to coerced into unfolding.

Our biggest grip of all however, is that it is difficult to steer. The smart buggy has two separate handles when it could so easily have been joined across the middle. Why?! to save a few grams?!! I now know why virtually all decent strollers have a single, continuous push handle... When you have only one hand free, (common with a mobile toddler) you need to push the stroller in the middle to keep it in straight line! exactly where there is a gap with this stroller! because it is missing the stroller also twists and flexes horribly. On anything other than a smooth mall floor, this stroller is a pain.

The lycra canopy is a cool idea, but can't be locked in the up position so it becomes a Childs play thing rather than a protection thin.
The optional cup holder has to be removed every time you fold the chair.
The parking brake often clicks whilst pushing because it won't remain in the fully unlocked position. Reclining the chair is not easy and it doesn't recline very much.

So to summarize: there are many things wrong with this stroller and not much right. If you buy one, you will manage, it is not dangerous or anything, but if you have ever owned or used a different stroller you will realize how flawed the Phil & Ted's smart buggy is. It is all style and not enough substance and I urge you to look at other alternatives.

We researched LOTS of strollers, and ended up buying this one. What a great purchase! Yes, it's expensive...but I use it almost every day. It's easy to fold up and un-fold. I love the handle extenders, too. I didn't think I'd need them (I'm 5'8"), but I found myself kicking the wheels on my way out of the grocery store the other day. A quick push of the button, and presto!, the handles were longer. I love the way my daughter (1 year old) sits in it like a regular seat (although you can adjust the incline easily) and how the tray easily snaps in and out of place. The break is easy to apply with 1 foot, and the wheels swivel to turn without effort (unless I lock them) even when I'm only pushing the stroller with one hand (because I'm carrying something in the other hand). The material is really nice, too.

Ummm maybe you ran out of the good ones and called me a sucker.

I got this and it sat in my shelf for a while because I didn't really expect much. Then I made it one night to share with my son (2) and daughter (4) and we all loved it! My daughter has celiac and is super picky, so I was happy it said "gluten free" right on the box. And it was so good - we ate the other box we had too (peanut flavor). Both were fantastic, the Pad thai is a little more spicy (but not too much). I was so surprised it was so good, I can't wait to get more!

I bought this umbrella for my parents and it broke on their second use. BUT, because this was after the short return window, we were unable to do anything about it and the company was completely unwilling to help us - in fact, their abbrasive response included that stating that if we challenged the purchase with our credit card company, that they always win. Win?? is that the way a company treats a customer? Indeed, we did lose, but they lost a future customer.

I gave this to my niece for Mother's day and upgraded the wheels as a gift to her husband on Father's day. It is a necessary carry all if you have a young child and lots of stuff, but the wheel conversion was an absolute must to go through the soft sand at Jax Beach. My light arrived today, and I was very pleased with what I got. The build quality isn't stellar, but hey based on the price I'd say anyone who complains is a fool. I was actually surprised by how solid it felt. Even though the stand isn't solid metal, it doesn't feel like it's going to break on me any time soon.

The thing I like most about this light is that it doesn't put out a noticeable amount of heat! The heat is always an issue with continuous lighting sources, as you don't want your subject to be uncomfortable. I personally worked in a studio for two years where we used three large soft boxes, and if we left them on for a 15 minute shoot it felt like standing on the sun. This light doesn't have nearly as much power as that set-up but it's perfect for fill light in portraits or even as a primary light.

It does the job very well and I have been immensely pleased with the photos I've taken with it so far. I would make this purchase again in a heartbeat. You really can't beat this deal.

This umbrella was gifted to me a few weeks ago from a friend after my other cheap umbrella broke on a windy day. Like most people that drive everywhere, I normally buy an umbrella only when I really need one (ie have to walk somwhere outside), which means I buy the cheapest umbrella that I happen to come across that day.

This is definitely not one of those cheap umbrellas. Aside from the fact that the umbrella opens and closes by pushing one button (10 on the cool factor), it is durable against the wind. One day and a gust of wind caused the umbrella to 'invert,' which made me think I had just broken another umbrella. But, to my surprise I could flip the umbrella backs to its normal shape due to the non-metal frame. Good as new. Had no idea 'windproof' umbrellas like this existed, pretty awesome.

Not sure that the umbrella is indestructible, but I have a good feeling that this one will last me for quite a long time without breaking (just hope I dont lose it in the trunk). Now that I found it on Amazon maybe I'll buy it for other people who walk outside more than I do =)

A MUST read, in my opinion, July 15, 2009

A Kid's Review

I received Umbrella Summer by Lisa Graff for my birthday this year, just days after it came out. I was excited about this, because I had already read Mrs. Graff's The Thing About Georgie, and read about this book online.

When I was debating on whether or not to start reading it, I thought, "Well, I'll just read the first chapter to see how it goes." And I ended up reading half of the book. And later that evening, I read the rest.

At the end of the book, I couldn't figure out whether to cry or just smile like an idiot. The last paragraph/sentence was truly epic in my opinion.

Lisa Graff is an amazing writer, and her characters are always real and relatable. I am looking foward to her next book.

Over all, Umbrella Summer is a must read. Order it right now, or just run to the book store.

This is an excellent mini-series about the Indian/Hindu custom of "suttee" or "sati" where the wife of the deceased is burned alive by sitting on the top of the husband's funeral pyre. Stars Amy Irving & Ben Cross as lovers who try to prevent Irving's sister from being burned alive. Cross is a half-caste British Officer who is willing to risk everything to help Irving. NOT as gruesome as it sounds and is very beautifully and tastefully done with costumes and locals to fit the period. Based on the book. I really like this series and gave it 5 stars for the production, sets, and story.

It's my first light stand. Although we use more expensive stands at work, this one meets my budget. Usual use is indoor/studio lighting but sometimes light outside shoot. Sturdy enough to hold my 43" umbrella and an SB-800. I haven't tried using bigger strobes though. For it's price, it is meeting my needs.

I bought 2 of these umbrellas at Costco for $20 each. For the price, I think they did pretty well. They have a metallic undercoating which helps keep out the sun (at least, better than the skimpy cloth umbrellas). At one point it did get a little windy and one of the umbrellas flipped inside out (so much for the wind vents) and actually came out of the ground but we just flipped it back and dropped it about 8 inches. I should also note that one umbrella was anchored with a Beach Umbrella Sand Anchor - White and never flipped -- not sure if it had anything to do with it, but thought I'd mention it. Didn't find the tilt feature particularly useful until much later in the day -- we like to go to the beach late morning to mid-afternoon.

Also, one of the umbrellas' little white nubs at the top was not attached when we pulled it out of the bag (but Costco replaced it, no questions asked) so that may speak towards the quality of the umbrella. We did use the "nub-less" umbrella with no problems though so the nub may just be decorative.

Overall, I felt I got a good deal at $20 per umbrella but I wouldn't have paid $47 for one.
